Description:
The John Howard Society of York Region is a non-profit, charitable organization serving residents of York Region. The organization works with individuals involved in any stage of criminal justice involvement and their families.
The Reset Program is a peer-led program provided to individuals 18+ who have completed existing JHSYR programming, such as PAR or Mindset. The program’s primary goals are to increase support to existing clients; facilitate programming relevant to the needs of the group; and provide valuable wraparound support once structured programming has ended.
The primary function of this position is to co-facilitate sessions and provide support for the Reset Program in coordination with the RESET program facilitator.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Connect directly with clients to provide immediate support and conduct intake/needs assessments
- Co-facilitate daytime, evening, and weekend program sessions, as required, virtually, over the phone, and at various locations in the community.
- Facilitate client access to services, programs, and emergency supports
- Complete all required reports and training, as directed by the Program Manager.
- Ensure that services delivered are efficient and effective through evaluation techniques.
- Support peers with goals of group facilitation or individual progress.
- Refer clients to internal and external community resources, when required.
- Always maintain and respect professional boundaries with clients and coworkers.
- Assist with system navigation of government and community programs
- Accompany clients to probation, court, or counselling appointments, where necessary and permitted
- Liaise and collaborate with probation and parole officers, community partners, and stakeholders in a professional manner
- Complete required program reports, data collection, and intake statistics
- Ensure client confidentiality as per agency policy
- Exercise a flexible, non-judgmental, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive approach to people and work
- Adhere to the directives and program standards of John Howard Society of York Region
- Engage in continuous learning as directed by the Program Manager
- Attend and participate in supervision, staff, and team meetings.
- Perform other duties or tasks as directed by the Program Manager
- Utilize Microsoft Office applications and online meeting platforms
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree in relevant Human Services field, e.g., Social Work, Criminology, Psychology, Social Services or an equivalent combination of experience and education
- Knowledge regarding intimate partner violence, child abuse, and the dynamics of violence and abuse.
- Lived experiences with mental health, addiction, IPV and/or the criminal justice system
- Experience in peer facilitation and group dynamic.
- Able to articulate an analysis of intimate partner violence as it relates to gender roles, socialization, the dynamics of power and control, and the effects of abuse.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Oral and written proficiency in English and French at the superior level is preferred.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend hours, if required.
- Ability to commute/travel between offices and locations in York Region
- Ability to speak more than one language is an asset.
