QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Completion of Post Secondary diploma or degree
Experience:
- 6 months or less experience working in customer service, hospitality industry or with students
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices and procedures
- Excellent organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to assess priorities, work independently to address individual student and community needs
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy and judgement including crisis management and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and the public
- Ability to understand a wide variety of English-speaking accents and to document observations in English
- Approachable and understanding individual with proven customer service orientation and the ability to respond professionally to inquiries, complaints and requests for services in a fair, tactful and firm manner
- Demonstrated ability to obtain cooperation and compliance to policies, regulations and legislation
- Capacity to establish rapport, support and demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs
- Willingness to work extended evening and overnight shifts on a rotational basis, including weekends
- Proven ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize competing needs
- Beginner level of knowledge using tablets and Microsoft Office Word and Excel
Responsibilities:
The Residence Safety Assistant will contribute to the promotion and creation of a safe living and recreational space and will assist with mitigating risks to students and others through positive open and engaging relationships with residents, sharing supportive and educational conversations, and ensuring room capacity limits and other health standards are adhered to and participating effectively in emergency/crisis response protocols. The assistant will confront students who fail to comply with policies and safe living practices and document concerns referring to other resources as required. All work shifts will be in the evening and on weekends.
