Purpose of Position
Reporting to the LPN, Team Lead, RN, or DON, Resident Care Workers are graduates from a recognized RCW program who assist other health care personnel, facility staff, and physicians in the care of residents. Teams will be assigned to each floor and neighborhood; duties will be shared when necessary. The RCW will act in compliance with Provincial Community Care and Nursing Care Regulations, as well as all internal policies and procedures.

Main Duties

  • Answer call signals; assist residents to the bathroom; supply and empty bed pans; bathe, dress and groom residents; serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of residents and assist residents with menu selection; weigh, lift, turn, and position residents; monitor nutritional intake; supervise residents’ exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for residents, accompany residents on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to resident care and comfort.
  • Take residents’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor residents’ status and document resident care on charts; administer first aid in emergency situations; collect specimens such as urine, feces or sputum; administer suppositories.
  • Follow proper resident transfer policies.
  • Make beds and maintain residents’ rooms.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Clean and maintain all medical equipment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Education from a recognized RCW program.
  • Experience is an asset.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork qualities.
  • Current CPR, criminal record check, immunizations, GPA, and TLR.

Working Environment

  • Rotating shifts between 3 and 12 hours.
  • Rotating shifts including days, evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Neighborhoods will consist of 16-20 residents.
  • Frequent interaction with residents, family members, and the public.

Position Available: 80-100% PERM
Starting Wage Range: $20.00-$25.20
