POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Performs resource planning functions including the development and improvement of monthly, annual and multi-year forecasts for resource drivers such as train & people starts, workload metrics (car miles, train miles etc.), train productivity, train speed, locomotive productivity, fuel, car fleets and other key performance indicators. Assists with the integration and summation of the plans
Develops variance reporting and scorecards against the corporate targets developed in #1 and the moving forecast. Collects, validates and improves data quality, analyzes the results and provides executive summaries to senior management and executive levels with any recommendations as required
Analyzes key operations metrics based on forecasts and initiatives, and develops insights to inform the target setting process over the annual and multi-year time frames providing ranges and multiple scenarios
Supports and leads the Resource and Capacity Planning process creating quarterly assessments of capability to meet the firm demand
Develops improves and maintains models for the assessment of resource supply, trends and constraints, in order to improve the Capacity planning process. This involves business leadership in the development or implementation of new technology and dashboards
Works with cross functional stakeholders to ensure supply plans are in place and aligned with the required capacity, while strengthening relations with stakeholders and internal customers to integrate and consolidate processes
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors in, science, mathematics, statistics, economics or another quantitative field
5+ years of work experience, railroad experience not mandatory, but preferred
Working knowledge of forecasting KPIs, demand and supply
Computer skills (word processing, advance Excel, statistical software, data base and project management)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary (executive presentations level)
Advance problem-solving abilities
Working knowledge of statistical methods
Working knowledge of data science
Ability to provide advice, influence and persuade others
Responsibilities:
The Specialist Resource and Capacity Planning develops, validates, supports and drives improvements to the integration of demand and resource plans, to provide a cohesive assessment of capacity and capability across all key resource and capacity planning groups, ensuring sufficient capacity exists to meet the expected demand. The role develops, updates, improves and maintains models, creates simulations and multiple scenarios as well as generates strategic and variance analyses of alternative operating methods and practices, articulating their relative merits and value.
