Description:
Haldimand-Norfolk REACH is a multi-service agency, providing Autism & Behaviour Services, Child & Youth Mental Health Services, Developmental Services, Youth Services, Adult Counselling Services, and several Early Learning Intervention & Care services including EarlyON Child & Family Centres and the Community Action Program for Children.
H-N REACH serves as the Lead Agency for Haldimand-Norfolk Child & Youth Mental Health Services, Coordinated Service Planning and the Student Nutrition Program in the Hamilton/Niagara Region. Through our Contact Unit, the agency serves as the single point of access for a variety of children’s services.
H-N REACH is recognized as a local leader in community education, advocacy, inter-sector collaboration and Community Service Planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of Early Childhood Education diploma, and additional training/experience/education related to working with children with special needs. Also, a Resource Teacher Certificate is preferred, or an acceptable combination of post-secondary training and work experience related to working with children with special needs
- Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Working knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act and regulations, Early Years Policy framework and applicable research and evidence-informed practices
- Possess skills for completion of developmental assessments and screening tools. Ability to interpret results, make recommendations and implement plans of action, program planning and service coordination
- Three to five years’ experience related to working with children & youth with special needs
- Personal and professional skills (maturity, diplomacy, relationship skills, etc.) to work with children & youth, families, and other professionals
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Valid First Aid including infant/child CPR certificate
- Vulnerable Sector Record Check (includes Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check) and Children’s Aid Society Declaration/Release
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence, $2 million vehicle liability insurance, clear Driver Abstract and use of a vehicle.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out functional and standardized assessments, support emerging skills, check for school readiness and support child with transition to school
- Provide input and feedback to the Clinical Supervisor or Autism & Behaviour Services Manager in order to formulate behaviour support strategies
- Lead curriculum-based group programming for children for up to six months before transition to school
- Consult with multi-disciplinary and family team members to support children in the program
- Coordinate and consult with the transition to school process with the family, schools board and other supports.
