Description:

The Resource CoordinatorOpen Learning coordinates the educational resources used across Open Learning’s course portfolio. The Coordinator initiates the purchase of textbook publications and related materials; determines quantities; maintains inventory systems, relevant files and reports; and fosters relationships with publishers and other external suppliers. The Coordinator contributes to the currency and ongoing efficiency of processes within the Curriculum Services Department of Open Learning.

EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12, plus two-year Business Diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three years’ related experience in a retail/inventory control environment, including
  • two years in a computerized inventory management environment
  • excellent communication with a variety of stakeholders in person and at a distance
  • interaction with print and online educational resources
  • troubleshooting and problem solving, preferably in the context of managing print and online educational resources

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Familiarity with current trends in educational resource materials; knowledge of online publisher platforms such as MyLab, REVEL, Connect, MindTap
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to problem-solve and exercise independent judgement
  • Proficient knowledge of electronic data entry, word processing operations, and spreadsheets, with efficient speed and accuracy

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and analyzes supply and demand of educational resources, forecasts stock depletion, and defines ordering criteria to coordinate availability of resources with course development timelines.
  • Prepares inventory reports for internal stakeholders, including resource specifications, quantity, quality, costs and delivery dates.
  • Liaises with publishers to obtain desk copies and anticipate release of new textbook editions.
  • Sets up and manages student access to publisher online resources; troubleshoots and resolves access issues.
  • Liaises with the Curriculum Support Associates and Open Learning Book Buyer to ensure timely adopting of course materials and resources throughout the course lifecycle.
  • Coordinates the work of the Open Learning Book Buyer.
  • Negotiates agreements for custom texts, reprints, e-books and other resource options.
  • Reports obsolete or surplus materials to determine returns and write offs.
  • Facilitates the year-end inventory count process.
