ABOUT THE ROLE

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a Resource Manager to cover a period of Maternity leave in 2025. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is seeking an opportunity to step up into a management role.
Responsible for all personnel processes within the department, the Resource Manager supports our 60+ line managers and 220+ staff in their everyday activities. Overseeing the entire employee journey from recruitment to resignation, the postholder is integral to the smooth running of development, wellbeing and pay & progression processes. Liaising with Imperial HR teams, the postholder will establish themselves as a conduit between the needs of the department and College policies and procedures. Linked to this, the postholder will also chair the departmental Events Group, ensuring that all staff can engage in community building activities, and representing best practice in communication and transparency.
In addition, the Resource Manager will be key in ensuring financial management of staffing budgets on research projects and recurrent accounts; acting as the approver for salary commitments and contract changes. As part of this, the postholder will support the Director of Research in ensuring the processes of applying for internal research funding, and obtaining feedback on proposals is in line with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) principles.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

You will be a key member of the Department’s Professional Services management team, responsible for ensuring processes and policies are efficient and transparent. This will include:

  • Strategic oversight of all personnel processes including recruitment, contract changes, pay review, promotions and leavers processes.
  • Line management of the Resource Administrator, who provides operational support on daily activities in the employee lifecycle.
  • Supporting the Director of Research in managing the Research Management Structure and internal calls procedure.
  • Active membership of the Department EDI Committee, embedding best practice in all department policies and processes.
  • Chair of the staff events group, ensuring the staff cohort is able to attend activities and be integral to community building initiatives.
