Your Opportunity:
This Alberta Health Services (AHS) opportunity is for recent or soon to graduate Respiratory Therapists who wish to work in operating room and anesthesia settings. This educational opportunity will assist you to gain knowledge in the areas of anesthesia care, maintenance and special procedures. Education and duties include airway and ventilation management, intubation, ABG procurement and interpretation, anesthesia equipment – functioning, trouble shooting and maintenance, administration of blood products, and the development of respiratory therapy care plans and monitoring the progress of patients receiving advances respiratory treatment. Clinical placements may be within the Edmonton Zone at one or more of the following facilities: Royal Alexandra Hospital and/or University of Alberta Hospital. As an Anesthesia Respiratory Therapist, you are monitoring the patient at different phases of the perioperative experience. You will assist the anesthesiologist and the OR team to provide safe, effective and efficient care to patients. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical respiratory therapy activities using evidence-based measures and outcomes. Upon successful completion of the 6-month temporary position, there will be the opportunity to apply on vacant OR-RT positions within the Edmonton Zone. There are 4 positions available. Education sessions will be held at CASES (Centre for the Advancement of Surgical Education and Simulation) with clinical practice at the RAH or UAH sites.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
