Title: Respite Grant Assistant

Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan
Purpose: This position will provide support for the Home Help program by reviewing and processing respite grant applications. Home Help provides State Plan personal care services to approximately 60,000 beneficiaries each year. Services are provided by over 30,000 individual providers and over 950 agency providers. Approximately 85% of providers are family members and 50% of them are live-in caregivers. The grant is designed to provide respite care for providers to avoid caregiver burnout and maintain quality of care to vulnerable individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required; associate degree preferred.
Experience: Experience working in a customer service field.
Important Skills and Characteristics:
- Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with callers to gather information and answer questions.
- Must have basic Word, Excel, and Internet experience and professional writing skills.
- Must be able to organize assignments and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to contribute to meetings and complete assignments timely.
- Must be comfortable attending virtual meetings and working independently in a remote setting.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of less than 50 pounds and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen most of the time. Standard office environment. May require infrequent travel to the office.
Responsibilities:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review Home Help Respite Care Grant Applications.
- Assist in logging applications received by mail, fax, or email to ensure they are processed in the order they are received.
- Verify information on the application using the MiAIMS system.
- Determine if the applicant meets the criteria to receive the grant.
Process paperwork to initiate payment.
- Complete the HH Respite and Caregiver Support Grant Checklist to verify eligibility.
- Log decision in the access database to track committed funds.
- Complete and mail an approval or denial letter.
- Upload documents into MiAIMS.
Provide weekly reports on status of the project.
- Attend staff meetings to discuss progress on dispersing funds.
- Attend meetings with stakeholders to discuss the project.
- Collaborate with team members to identify issues and discuss solutions.
Process payments for respite services.
- Review invoices for completeness.
- Enter authorizations in MiAIMS
- Record payments in the access database for tracking.
Provide effective customer service to beneficiaries, providers and others involved in the Medicaid Home Help Program.
- Communicate with adult services workers, supervisors, beneficiaries, family members, guardians, and providers as necessary.
- Identify problems and act to resolve them, including determining which problems should involve a supervisor or other department unit.
- Distribute program materials as requested by customers.
Other Duties:
- Maintain a positive, strong, credible, professional, and interpersonal relationships with all parties relevant to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Home Help program.
- Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
