Description:
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
York Hills is currently seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated Respite Workers to join our team located in York Region. Candidates will have experience with children and youth who have complex needs including, but not limited to: anxiety, attention difficulties, ASD, and emotional and behavioural needs.
Candidates will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in an individualized one-to-one respite service environment. Candidates will have flexibility to work evenings and weekends providing in-home respite, or out-of-home care depending on the needs of the family and of the individual requiring respite. We are looking for a dedicated Respite Worker who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of others.
Reporting to the Coordinator of Respite Services.
This is a very challenging, dynamic and rewarding role that will see you:
- Provide children/youth the one-to-one support they require
- Provide a positive, stimulating and safe physical environment for children and youth
- Assess the mental emotional needs of the child/youth to plan suitable social and recreational activities such as playing games and going on outings in the community.
- Supervise and participate in activities.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team model for communication and case planning and support
- Facilitating appropriate interventions and skilled in counselling
- Knowledge of trauma informed approaches, child development and neurobiology Commit to upholding the organization’s mission, values and standards
- Actively participate in a learning environment
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, time management and writing skills
- Thorough understanding of York Region and its resources
Job Type: Sub- Contractor / Part Time 28.03 Per/hr (up to 12 hours per week)
ABOUT THE QUALIFICATIONS:
To succeed in this role, the successful candidates must have:
- A Child and Youth Worker Degree/Diploma or equivalent;
- A minimum of two years post-graduate experience working with children and families is preferred;
- A valid Drivers’ License, clean abstract and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate 2 million liability insurance;
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Screening and,
- Ability to speak French or another language is desirable.
