Description:
The opportunity
This is an exciting time to join the University as we develop our strategic approach to a just transition and our plans to achieve net zero by 2040. Our actions to date have started to have a positive impact but we recognise there is more to be done and are committed to delivering this ambition. This position is one of a number of roles being recruited to support this vital area of work for the University. You will be part of a cross-institutional team, that will support and deliver our ambitious plans for net zero. This is a rewarding post in which you will have the opportunity to drive institutional change which facilitates a just transition to net zero, making a positive impact on the University community, those affected by our behaviours and the environment.
Working with an understanding of the need for a ‘just transition’ and why the pursuit of net zero must be integrated with other social purpose considerations, including social justice and biodiversity, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable working collaboratively with the net zero cross-institutional team and other staff across Colleges and Professional Services. As a collective you will be working together to drive the University towards a just transition. You will need to work closely with the Social Purpose Lab, in particular with the Head of the Net Zero and Social Purpose Programme, who will be responsible for the design and delivery of this ambitious programme for change.
The successful candidate will be expected to regularly collaborate with the Lab in the development of appropriate tools and resources for staff and students, where they can learn more about Social Purpose at UAL and access resources that they and their teams can use to make positive changes to the way they work and/or study. The post holder will support the delivery of the Lab’s Engagement Strategy, and will need to be comfortable with contributing to the content of and appearing in engagement activities such as workshops/event series and other UAL Social Purpose fora such as conferences and festivals to promote and share the work they and the University are doing around the push for net zero.
The University community, and those outwith are keen to learn about UAL’s net zero and Social Purpose agenda, and this role will require someone comfortable with contributing to regular progress reporting, communications and behaviour change initiatives for both internal and external audiences.
About you
This role offers an exciting chance to support the delivery of University of the Arts London’s net zero ambitions, drawing on your procurement experience to support the delivery of sustainable procurement strategies that support institutional change.
Working closely with the Responsible Procurement Lead, suppliers and internal teams, you will ensure that our procurement practices align with our sustainability goals and standards. This will involve regularly engaging with UAL’s supply-chain, supporting a culture of best practice, upholding our ethics and values, as well as helping to deliver proportionate risk-based contract management.
