Description:

The Restaurant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining the smooth flow of the restaurant’s activities. This includes managing staff, coordinating the dining area, monitoring inventory, and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness. A key responsibility is to have detailed knowledge of alcoholic beverages, including wines, spirits, cocktails, and beer, in order to assist guests, manage bar staff, and ensure legal compliance with alcohol-related regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision and Training:
  • Supervise, train, and mentor restaurant staff, including bartenders and servers, ensuring they possess thorough knowledge of alcoholic beverages.
  • Ensure that staff is adhering to company policies and local laws, especially regarding alcohol service and consumption.
  • Customer Service:
  • Provide exemplary customer service by answering questions and making recommendations on alcoholic drinks, wine pairings, and cocktails.
  • Resolve any customer issues or complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Alcohol and Beverage Knowledge:
  • Maintain a deep understanding of various alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, spirits, wines, and beers.
  • Train staff on drink preparation techniques, such as mixing cocktails, pouring wines, serving spirits, and crafting beer lists.
  • Stay updated on trends in the alcohol and beverage industry to offer innovative drink options to customers.
  • Inventory and Ordering:
  • Oversee the inventory of alcoholic beverages, ensuring that stock levels are maintained, and reorders are made on time.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure the best selection of alcohol is available at competitive prices.
  • Conduct regular stock audits to minimize wastage and losses.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure that the restaurant complies with all local and national regulations regarding alcohol sales and service.
  • Monitor staff to ensure that they are checking IDs and serving alcohol responsibly.
  • Maintain proper records for alcohol-related transactions and ensure compliance with alcohol licenses.
  • Cash and Financial Management:
  • Oversee cash handling and ensure that all alcohol-related transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Monitor drink prices, ensuring that customers are charged correctly and that promotions or happy hour specials are properly managed.
  • Team Coordination and Communication:
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, ensuring effective communication between kitchen, bar, and service staff.
  • Organize and lead team meetings to discuss performance, product updates, and customer feedback.
  • Event Planning and Special Functions:
  • Plan and oversee special events or promotions, such as wine tasting nights, cocktail-making classes, or seasonal drink offerings.
  • Ensure that alcohol-related events adhere to all safety and legal guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Alcoholic Beverages: In-depth knowledge of different types of alcoholic drinks (e.g., wine varieties, spirits, liqueurs, and cocktails), including preparation methods and ideal pairings.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong verbal communication skills, capable of interacting with both staff and guests.
  • Customer Service Focus: Ability to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere for guests while providing expert recommendations on alcohol and drinks.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of alcohol service laws, including minimum legal drinking age, responsible service of alcohol (RSA), and other relevant regulations.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to handle customer complaints and issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring high standards of drink quality, presentation, and service.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds (e.g., cases of alcohol or large trays of drinks).
