POSITION OVERVIEW:

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity to fill one (1) Regular Full-Time Restorative Justice Coordinator position. The Restorative Justice Coordinator, coordinates the delivery of Surrey Police Service (SPS’s) restorative justice (RJ) program, provides education and support to police officers regarding restorative practices and recruits, trains, and supervises RJ volunteers. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILL:

  • Thorough knowledge of professional ethics and principles in relation to the work performed.
  • Good knowledge of other resource agencies within Surrey.
  • Good knowledge of applicable computer software.
  • General knowledge of the criminal justice system, including the judiciary and corrections systems.
  • Relevant level of security clearance.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful candidate will have completed High School level education (Grade 12), supplemented by a university degree in social work, psychology, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution plus, a minimum of two years relevant experience or, completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a Diploma in social work, psychology, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution plus a minimum of four years relevant experience.
  • Experience in the delivery of RJ programs in a community and/or policing setting.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in an appropriate professional association preferred.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
  • Required to travel and work on and offsite with various public and community groups.
  • Required to work a flexible work schedule.
    This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $35.54/hour - $39.92/hour (pay grade 23K) based on 2024 Rates.

Responsibilities:

  • Researches, develops, coordinates, and delivers program initiatives, methods, and procedures.
  • Provides support to offenders, families, and victims of crime through restorative processes.
  • Conducts interviews with various parties, prepares participants and facilitates the RJ processes.
  • Initiates, arranges, and monitors agreements which resulted from RJ conferences.
  • Works with other restorative programs to create community and service partnerships.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers involved in RJ work.
  • Facilitates referral of clients to appropriate community resources.
  • Coordinates and conducts RJ conferences to meet the needs of offenders and victims of crime.
  • Responsible for case management and coordination with other staff and/or volunteers.
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, information summaries and carries out other admin duties related to the work.
  • Represents the program on community committees and at various professional agency meetings.
  • Provides advice to community professionals, families and SPS police officers.
  • Provides feedback to referring SPS police officers or community agency related to the work.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the budget.
  • Maintains inventory and supply of required materials and orders, as required.
  • Acts as a resource person for SPS police officers and the public regarding safety and crime issues.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
