Description:
The Royal Marsden is a centre of excellence with an international reputation for ground-breaking research, complex major surgery and pioneering the very latest in cancer treatments and technologies.
We currently have a full-time vacancy for a dynamic, motivated Resuscitation Officer to join our Service. The post is suitable for an established resuscitation officer who has current experience in the planning and delivery of a resuscitation service and educational programme.
You must be a certified instructor in Adult Advanced Life Support and demonstrate excellent clinical skills in resuscitation. Ideally you should have an acute or critical care background.
The role is key to the Trusts’ patient safety agenda through education, audit and quality improvement measures.
The successful candidate will join a multi-professional clinical education team and have the opportunity to develop their clinical and simulation educational skills; delivering Excellence in Education to the Trust.
1.1 To provide Basic, Immediate and Advanced life support training, for adults and paediatrics, within the trust, focusing on the Trust staff including medical, nursing, allied health and support staff.
1.2 He/she will need to attend emergency calls whenever possible within the trust.
1.3 To audit and monitor standards of resuscitation within the trust reporting to the Matron for Critical Care, Critical Care Outreach, Resuscitation and Pain.
1.4 Assist with the procurement and monitoring of clinical/emergency equipment used during resuscitation within the trust.
1.5 Planning, organisation and running of nationally recognised courses.
1.6 Within their scope of professional practice they will take a lead role in the management of patients and act as an expert resource for other members of the cardiac arrest team.
1.7 The post has both clinical and administrative requirements where the post holder will be required to be flexible to respond to cardiac arrest calls and spontaneous requests for training.
1.8 To be able to provide training and support across the Chelsea, Sutton and Cavendish Square sites in dedicated training centres.

Clinical Care
To attend cardiac arrests and medical emergencies within the Trust and perform as an expert practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and knowledge.
To provide on-going clinical support to the resuscitation team.
To ensure cardiac arrests are run safely and in accordance with local and the Resuscitation Council (UK) (RCUK) guidelines.
Analyse clinical information relevant to resuscitation and make treatment decisions based on relevant information whilst providing guidance to clinical colleagues during cardiac and peri-arrest events.
Patient Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with clinical experts such as the Critical Care Unit (CCU), Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) and the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) for the recognition, treatment, care and safe transfer of patients.
Provide expert clinical resource to the Trust, team, patients and carers
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and to work proactively with the Clinical Nurse Directors to ensure all duties are carried out as required.
Management
To ensure that all clinical areas have adequate access to resuscitation and emergency equipment
Liaise with Matron Critical Care, Critical Care Outreach, Resuscitation and Pain/Resuscitation Lead of any areas lacking adequate equipment provision ensuring areas of risk are rectified.
To ensure specialist equipment is monitored and maintained in accordance with trust and manufacturers guidelines with support from Clinical Engineering
