Description:

Trail Estate Winery is an exciting and dynamic winery located in Prince Edward County. We make many zero additive wines like Pet Nats and orange wines as well as classic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We farm our vineyard sustainably, growing premium grapes on beautiful limestone soils.
The Opportunity – Learn it all!!!
We are looking for a candidate who wants to learn all aspects from farm to cellar to retail. The ideal candidate will be eager for a new experience that will prepare them for a future in wine.
As we are a small winery with a very small team, the ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be able to work independently. There will be many odd jobs required, but plenty of experience. Physically the candidate will be able lift up to 50lbs, stand for long periods of time and work outside in varying weather conditions. The position will be from May until end of August and will be 5 days a week. Weekends are a requirement.
No previous experience is necessary, but preference will be given to a candidate with wine or vineyard education.
This position is funded, in part, through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Role:
The bulk of the work will be focused on a regular retail & vineyard schedule, with occasional cellar work. Work closely with the winemaker, vineyard manager and owner – asking all the questions along the way!
Duties - Retail:
- First point of contact for guests who join us, high level understanding of the POS system, money handling, maintaining general organization, and cleanliness.
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with visitors, offering tastings, and sharing knowledge about our wines and sustainable practices.
- Assist customers in finding products and making purchasing decisions
- Upsell and cross-sell products to maximize sales opportunities
- Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently
- Maintain a clean and organized environment and glassware
Duties - Vineyard:
- odd tractor work and gardening
- assist in vineyard with re-planting, thinning, shoot positioning, green harvest
- assist in vineyard analysis
- odd cellar duties - assist with racking and bottling
Qualifications:
- Previous wine/vineyard experience preferred
- Wine knowledge is an asset but can be taught for the right candidate
- Strong organizational skills to manage inventory and keep track of sales
- Excellent interpersonal and sales skills
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus
- Time management skills to prioritize tasks and handle multiple customers simultaneously
- Independence: Demonstrate the ability to work independently, taking initiative to complete tasks and contribute to the overall success of the winery.
- Basic math skills for handling cash transactions
- Successful candidates will be able to be outgoing with guests, have experience in hospitality, some wine knowledge specific to the PEC region, able to work weekends
- Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks/standing.
- Training: Must have valid smart serve in Ontario and be legally able to serve wine.
