Short description of the position:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled researcher to develop methodologies for retrieving snow properties using satellite data in the context of a ESA project. The candidate will work with optical satellite imagery and leverage cloud computing platforms, to generate snow cover and snow properties maps. This role involves innovation in remote sensing and data analytics to advance snow monitoring and support environmental research.
Tasks:
- Develop and implement algorithms for snow cover mapping and snow property retrieval using optical satellite data.
- Utilize cloud computing platforms (e.g., OpenEO) to process and analyse large-scale datasets.
- Use and tune dedicated machine learning models
- Explore the integration of SAR data to complement optical analyses.
Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with geospatial data processing libraries
- Solid academic background in engineering or physics.
- Experience with optical satellite data processing and geospatial analysis workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and tools.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to handle large datasets effectively.
