Who we are looking for
As a Risk Analyst within State Street Global Advisors’ Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, you will support program strategy and framework implementation to ensure effective identification, measurement, control and management of SSGA operational risk in Europe Middle East and Africa. In addition the role will support the oversight of the investment and liquidity risks on portfolios managed in the region. The role includes helping support oversight for all asset management activities both locally and regionally, as well as any support or sub-delegated responsibilities outside of the region.
In this role you can anticipate substantive interaction with several global business functions, such as Investment Management, Operations, Trading, Product, Legal and Compliance, and will need to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. You will also help drive a risk-aware culture throughout the organization by challenging the status quo and providing objective thought leadership to our organization and the financial industry.

The Global ERM team consists of over 65 risk professionals located in various locations across US, EMEA and APAC. As a combined group, we are responsible for identification, assessment, control and reporting of risk in four main areas: operational, investment, liquidity, credit, and model risk.

What you will be responsible for

  • Support the overall operational risk program and framework of SSGA EMEA’s business units together with ensuring the region’s ongoing quality of business unit programs, with a focus on operations in the Middle East .
  • Provide in-region support to portfolio managers with regards to investment and liquidity risk queries.
  • Support the overall investment and liquidity risk programs for portfolios managed in region, ensuring that risk exceedances are understood, escalated and appropriately mitigated.
  • Provide education and tools to the 1st line business in region to promote / enable self-assessment, measurement, reporting and management of operational risk. Help in fostering a risk-aware approach to management of the business.
  • Provide support in the production of risk management information for relevant bodies (Committees, Boards etc.).
  • Collaborate on dashboard and Key Risk Indicator design and reporting and call out heightened or out of appetite risks to all relevant Governance bodies.
  • Provide strategic oversight to business line development through identification and communication of emerging risks and themes.
  • Support regulatory requirements such as legal entity risk assessments and risk identification workshops for the relevant entities.
  • Provide support in the creation and maintenance of Enterprise Risk Management Outsourcing Agreements and SLAs.
  • Ensure identification of reported incidents are assessed and tracked and corresponding initiatives are implemented as appropriate.
  • Perform Targeted Risk Assessments and ‘Deep Dive’ investigations in to operational processes and work with the business to ensure the development of action plans to remediate identified control gaps.
  • Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity and ensure compliance with accepted industry practice, company policies, statute and regulatory requirements.
  • Support a culture of risk openness and effective challenge.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or business-related field, or equivalent experience; having FRM is ideal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
  • Prior experience in an enterprise risk management team would be an asset,
  • Willingness to use technology and systems to improve the risk monitoring process.

Additional requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in a financial services organization with demonstrable knowledge of risk processes and control design, assessment and leading practices within the industry.
  • Passion for complex problem solving and skill in strategies to drive engagement and visibility.
  • Able to adept at operating in dynamic environments, with ability to influence management and building relationship skills.
  • Excellent analytical, social and communication skills combined with ability to work independently with can-do attitude.
