JOB SUMMARY
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) provides cost effective maritime operational support to the Naval Service, wider Defence and our Allies. Recruitment of RFA personnel is essential to fill operational seagoing posts, drawing from a Merchant Navy and civilian audience. You will be part of the Recruit and Attract Head Quarters within Portsmouth naval base. This is an exciting role that provides you with a phenomenal opportunity to demonstrate your expertise as a HR professional by engaging and supporting the business.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Deputy Head of RFA will cover a diverse range of activities, oversee all aspects of RFA recruiting as delegated by Head of RFA Recruiting in accordance with the Commodore RFA and Second Sea Lord recruiting requirements.
- Delivering, reviewing, and analysing workload reports / statistical data on a regular basis to monitor, predict and address workload requirements and risks.
- Provide a focal point for staff and key Navy stakeholders for RFA recruitment.
- Escalate performance risks and/or missed targets to Head of RFA Recruiting.
- Influencing and contributing to decision making both internally and externally regarding synergic ways of working. Engaging in regular team and management meetings to evaluate service delivery, provide briefings and ensure effective teamwork within a supportive environment.
- Promoting and ensuring efficient and effective working relationships between RFA, other parts of Recruit and Attract and the Navy, who support us in our objectives.
The responsibilities of the Deputy Head also has managerial responsibilities, and there are additional roles within RFA that you may be asked to perform once the requisite time has elapsed and experience gained.
- Line managing RFA EO and RFA Administration Officer in accordance with Civil Service and MOD policies of Line Management, including performance management of staff, and effective management of absences.
- Organise Recruitment timetable for RFA Ratings and oversee Officer recruiting annually.
- Ensure the wellbeing and effective support of all staff through regular check ins and 1-2-1s. Promote and develop a culture of peer support and self-care in the team utilising all RFA/Navy/MOD resources such as the Supportive Care Directive, Employee Assistance Programme, Charity for Civil Servants etc.
- Undertake sifts and interviews for Apprentice Ratings including written reports and selection results.
- Issue Formal and Provisional Offers to RFA Ratings and Officers once selected.
- To provide advice on MOD and civil service recruitment policy; to liaise with RFA People Delivery and Subject Matter Experts regarding eligibility criteria and draft Recruiting Instructions.
