Description:
This is an exciting band 5 opportunity to develop your mental health skills across a range of mental health specialisms within a rotational scheme in services which are committed to using a recovery focussed approach to deliver the very best outcomes for our patients.
The rotations are each a 12 month duration and provide opportunity to develop individual and group work skills across:
Mental Health Services for Older People within inpatient and community mental health services
Inpatient Low Secure Setting
Inpatient High Secure Setting
Adult Mental Health within a community setting
The Occupational Therapist will work with in a multi disciplinary team in a collaborative manner with patients and families. They will provide comprehensive assessments and interventions which promote recovery and positive risk taking maintaining occupation at the centre of their practice.
Provide an occupational therapy service for a diverse range of people with complex mental health needs who are referred to the service.
To carry out occupational therapy ethical and evidence based assessment, goal setting, implementation of individual and group treatment and programs and evaluation.
To establish the needs of individuals referred into the service and plan care with colleagues from health, social services, families and the voluntary sector.
To represent and promote the role of occupational therapy
To actively engage in CPD activities offerred including band 5 peer support group, team in-service training, preceptorship program, specialist rotational competencies, clinical supervision.

To provide an occupational therapy service for a diverse patient group and their families.
The occupational therapy service delivers individual assessments, formulation, specific interventions and evaluations maintaining occupation at the centre of practice.
Occupational Therapist’s will work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration andconsultation with the patient group, their families, support network and/or other agencies/professionals to deliver safe, effective person centred care.
Occupational therapy service provides a quality timely accessible, ethical, person centred servicethrough tailored packages of care in the most appropriate setting under the supervision of a Band 6Occupational Therapist or above.
To provide mentoring, education and supervision to non-registered, junior staff including students.
To contribute to the development, provision, and evaluation of learning programs for the wider MDT.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of the individuals on their caseload.
To ensure high standards of clinical care by utilising core occupational therapy skills, professional judgement and evidenced based critical reasoning in decision making
Takes responsibility for occupational therapy assessment, formulation, interventions, evaluations, effective discharge planning and safe transfers of care for individuals and groups
To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up to date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements.
Communicates assessment and treatment outcomes to other agencies, referrers, and team members as appropriate in a timely manner.
To undertake any other duties that would be a reasonable expectation of the role
Responsibilities:
Registered occupational therapist with HCPC registration.
The post holder will need an understanding of the complex needs and treatment approaches relevant to the individual.
The post holder will work towards the role of practice placement educator for OT students providing practice and work based learning including placement opportunities.
The post holder will work flexibly to meet the needs of the service this may include evening or weekend work.
