Description:
We are looking for Occupational Therapists for our rotation at UHCW NHS Trust. The rotation offers a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences, to develop clinical skills across the patient pathway within the Acute setting.

Your induction will include time being ‘supernumerary’ to settle in, complete core training, and learn hospital systems.
You’ll be allocated a Mentor for rotations, PDRs, and Preceptorship support. Each rotation also includes a supervisor. A Clinical Skills Facilitator OT will work with you 1:1 to apply theory in the Acute setting.
This post is for a Rotational Occupational Therapist at UHCW NHS Trust, the rotations are for 6 months and provide opportunities for staff to consolidate theory into practice and to develop core skills in a variety of clinical settings. These include inpatients, outpatients, emergency departments and the discharge team.
The post holder will provide Occupational Therapy assessments, interventions, and discharge planning to promote, maintain, and restore functional abilities whilst considering the individuals’ abilities, health, requirements, and environment.
The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and team-working skills. The post holder will be expected to manage a caseload, plan, and undertake Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions, whilst demonstrating clear clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, with support from their team and senior colleagues.
The post holder will actively engage to promote the role of Occupational Therapy and the development of Occupational Therapy provision.
The post holder will provide clinical support to less-experienced staff, as delegated by seniors.
Staff are also supported by the AHP Faculty who provide regular training sessions, alongside the team In-Service Training opportunities.

Main Duties
To carry out assessments and treatments using a variety of modalities. This may include physical, cognitive, perceptual, and psychological interventions
To evaluate and modify treatment plans in line with patient need
To ensure accurate documentation and recording of all interventions and outcomes
To hold responsibility for own caseload within defined area of the service, with Senior staff support
To support patient flow through timely discharge planning and linking with community services
Clinical
Hold responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of the service and eventually work without direct supervision
Carry a clinical caseload of patients, assess, evaluate, and provide a detailed written treatment plan with patient centred goals working within ward / department areas, home and community settings as identified by Occupational Therapist
Carry out treatment using a variety of modalities, this may include physical, cognitive, perceptual and psychological intervention, evaluating modifying and recording all interventions and outcomes
Work in accordance with RCOT & HCPC rules of professional conduct and within local care pathways, policies and standards
Professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of his/her own professional activities and to manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times, whilst remaining responsible to Team Leader/Clinical Specialist
Responsible for own personal development, keeping up to date with occupational therapy practice in order to establish and maintain competence and fitness to practice as an Occupational Therapist. To maintain a professional evidence-based portfolio, meeting the requirements of the HCPC
Review and reflect on own practice and performance and make effective use of professional and operational supervision and annual review undertaking supervision of others as agreed
Complying with agreed development programmes to meet knowledge, skills and competency requirements
Leadership & Education
Work as an autonomous member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programmes and service improvements
Responsible for the supervision and written assessment of Occupational Therapy students on practice placement within the Trust

You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post
Research
Demonstrate a good understanding and application of national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care in service provision
Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current research, apply to practice and disseminate findings at a local level
Widen research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects
