REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in a range of field environments
  • Prior experience working on agricultural land, excavation and or cable/pipe works
  • Competent using plant and machinery with relevant tickets
  • Digger Ticket (essential)

    Shortlisted applicants will be offered a Trial Day with the Civils team instead of a formal type interview. At Wessex we value the importance of candidates fully understanding what our field based roles involve and getting a little taster. The successful candidates will receive full payment for this trial day in their first pay-packet.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Network Delivery Team. We are now looking for experienced people to join out team as a Civils Team Leader. As a team Lead you will be overseeing teams of 2-3 civils operatives and working within our larger Civil Engineering Department. The role will report to the Rural Network Build Manager. Initially your main role will be overseeing the operation of our 2.7ton Kubota diggers, supporting the smooth running of the Vibratory Mole Plough and Directional Drilling teams. Our unique trench-less equipment allows for simple and efficient network build across varying soil types and terrain.
Our successful candidate will have experience within a civils construction role or come from a farming background with experience of using agricultural machinery. Knowledge and experience of working across agricultural land and or experience in excavation works and cabling will support in understanding the challenges faced when building new infrastructure across tricky terrain. The applicant will also have strong people skills and be ready to get involved in whatever their teams need from them, problem solving abilities , excellent communication skills and the desire and passion to lead a team promoting our values.
To begin with full training & early work will take place in Blandford, Dorset. You will be required to drive to our Blandford site until we are fully operational in Wiltshire.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Team Leadership: Manage and work cohesively as part of a team, overseeing 2-3 operatives.
  • Machinery Operation: Operate excavation machinery to complete tasks such as fibre laying, manhole installation, and the construction of telecommunication cabinets.
  • Issue Identification: Identify and report issues or challenges that may hinder the team’s progress, providing feedback for improvement.
  • Maintenance Support: Assist in conducting regular maintenance checks on machinery to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Safety Practices: Always promote and adhere to safe working practices. Ensuring the working area is safe for you and your team.
  • Health & Safety: Raise and address any potential health and safety risks promptly.
  • Incident Reporting: Record and report any accidents or near misses to your team, ensuring proper documentation and follow-up.
  • Training Support: Assist in training new team members to ensure they are well-integrated and knowledgeable to carry out the work required.
