Description:

LOCATION: NEW WESTMINSTER, BC

We have an exciting role for an experienced RVT looking for that next step towards leading a clinic. This role requires an experienced RVT who will offer exceptional care and a supportive environment to our patients and their owners.
The role is responsible for assisting doctors with patients during appointments, discussing treatments and surgery options with owners, providing anesthesia and monitoring for patients and discharging patients after surgery.
This key role also will be the on site leadership for the hospital team of three associates and locums or casual staff when required.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduated from accredited VT program
  • Registered with governing body (BCVTA)
  • Required CE hours to keep registration current
    Compensation: $31.00 to $36.00 per hour. The hourly rate range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

Responsibilities:

CLINIC TEAM LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive, monitor and respond to hospital communication from the support office and other areas with in VCA Canada
  • Monitor and approve timesheets of associates, including production reporting
  • Oversee performance and performance documentation for the team
  • Manage locum hours for reporting
  • Monitor stock and inventory
  • Oversee clinic site for repairs or maintenance
  • Daily deposits
  • Scheduling of associates and locums to meet appointment needs
  • Meet with Vendors when necessary and schedule info sessions for learning
  • Meet with your Senior Leader and review bi-weekly and monthly initiatives, goals and financials.

REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNOLOGIST/TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meeting clients and getting detailed history based on information sent in referral, or update on patient status for recheck appointments
  • Meeting clients for RVT appointments (tonometry or suture removal, primarily)
  • Calling next day surgery patients to confirm the procedure, discuss fasting instructions based on patient needs, answer any questions and confirm drop off and pick up items
  • Proficient in anesthesia, but training can be provided for specific anesthesia techniques; example: paralysis for intra-ocular surgery
  • Setting up and restocking exam room for upcoming patients
  • Restraining patient for exam
  • Gathering required prescriptions for patient for doctor to discuss, or for RVT to go over with owner
  • Preparing estimates to email to client and book surgery if required
  • Review file for current lab work and discussing with client via phone or email if needed and send lab request form to RDVM via their preferred method of contact (fax or email)
  • Sanitizing or disinfection of exam room after each appointment and clean surgical instruments, including kennels and pet holding area
  • During surgery mornings, meet with clients and go over consent form, review and obtain owner signature and discuss pick up time (owner will be called and notified of time based on patient recovery)
  • Prepare treatment room area for upcoming surgery, including prepping and testing anesthetic machine, reconstitute drugs needed
  • Prep OR with surgery packs, IV fluids and prep and test anesthetic machine
  • TPR of surgical patients
  • Prepare anesthesia records and drugs based on patient history, exam findings and overall requirements based on signalment and surgery requirements
  • Catheterize, induce and maintain anesthesia
  • Monitor patient using Cardell monitor and Doppler
  • Keep clear and accurate anesthesia log
  • Recovery of patients
  • Surgical laundry and general laundry
  • Wrapping and sterilizing of packs and instruments, hand towels and gowns
  • Prepping invoices, medications, printing discharge notes and general after anesthesia instructions and preparing them for surgical patients for discharge
  • Keeping accurate control drug logs
  • Managing difficult clients, client concerns/complaints
