Description:

Our Licensed Nuclear Facilities Branch is looking for S&T Hot Cell Technicians!
The Fuels and Material Cells Facility (FMC) is used primarily for the detailed examination of irradiated materials. Under the direction of the Facility Supervisor, Fuels & Materials Cells Hot Cell Technicians are trained and to acquire the knowledge of operating procedures and processes, and to operate the specialized equipment necessary for Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) and Metallographic examination of materials. They will also assist in the general operations of the facility as required to maintain the Facility Authorization of this Class I Nuclear Facility.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for career development while working on a variety of systems, small and large projects and several new programs and initiatives. The position offers unique challenges, exposure to commissioning activities, operating systems problem solving and design interface activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Using master-slave manipulators, operating in-cell equipment including hand tools, power tools, measurement devices and process equipment.
  • Performing radioactive material flask handling and transferring operations and performing routine maintenance on on-site transfer flasks.
  • Performing all operations of Hot Cells within the limits imposed by the Facility Authorization, and as defined in other operations documentation.
  • Assisting in providing technical support for maintenance of all hot cell systems.
  • Responsible for the safe, proper and efficient operation of all in-cell and out-of-cell PIE equipment.
  • To be familiar with the appropriate methods and precautions required for the handling of radioactive materials.
  • carrying out or assisting in the design, construction, repair, testing, evaluation and operational development of specialized PIE equipment.
  • Cross-training in several processes competently.
  • Preparing records, procedures, memoranda and reports through the use of Personal Computers.
  • Performing other related duties appropriate to the assigned level.
  • Carrying out other operational duties as required.
