Five Corners Meat Co. is part of a family-owned global provider of high-quality specialty meat products, has an exciting opportunity for a Safety Coordinator, based out of our Chilliwack, BC location.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing daily Environmental, health & safety operations for our Chilliwack, BC plant including:
- Engages leadership and provides guidance in obtaining safe operations in protecting workers, contractors, visitors, and the general public.
- Ensures company compliance by remaining current and interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Drives prevention strategies for incident reduction through policy and continuous improvement.
- Responses to regulatory and emergencies as required, leading investigations, and ensuring proper recordkeeping for those events of high severity potential or resulting in injury.
- Employee engagement and leadership through positive reinforcement, behavioral based observations, safety talks, and situational awareness.
- Developing a culture that proactively anticipates hazards and corrects unsafe conditions/actions.
- Administers the Environmental, Health & Safety Management System including manuals, programs, compliance calendars, industrial hygiene surveys, training, etc.
- Performs audits and reporting, ensuring corrective action and operational compliance.
- Partnerships with Human Resources regarding disability management related to both non-work related and work-related events.
- Contractor vetting and safety management as per contractual agreements.
- Occasional air travel may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive Occupational Health and Safety experience in a leadership role – a significant portion of this experience should be in a unionized manufacturing environment, with food manufacturing being ideal.
- University or College education and Health & Safety certification or working towards, CRSP or equivalent.
- Active First Aid certificate will be required during employment.
- Strong understanding of Work Safe regulations.
- Great communicator – Verbally and written.
- Strong time management, planning, organizing and prioritization skills.
- Travel required to sites in Western Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to: Maintain a high-energy level in a rapid-pace work environment.
- Work collaboratively at all levels of the organization and within teams.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Use excellent judgement and superior problem-solving skills within the scope of duties.
- Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software.
