PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Safety/Environmental Technician ensures the proper safety and environmental practices in our plant. This position will administer the safety program in the plant and ensure compliance with state & federal environmental policies and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares & schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, & other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records of discharge of employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Establish a culture of safety by executing company safety plans and enforcing policies.
  • Facilitate safety training and conduct safety meetings with leaders and plant employees.
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Work with new employees to communicate our safety & quality culture, assess their training needs etc.
  • Participation in Environmental and Safety audits.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to identify and define problems and create solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
  • Ability to communicate with others to ensure coordination of other functions such as operator training, machine calibration, communication of quality & safety guidelines, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient with computers and appropriate software.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit & morale to foster group commitment to goals & objectives.
  • Capable of managing competing demands with ability to change approach or method to best fit the situation.
  • Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events in a positive manner.
  • Dependability - Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
