Description:
The Safety Investigator - Commercial Operations is responsible to the Director, Commercial Operations QC and Safety and dotted line responsibility to the VP, Cargo and Airport Operations for the day-to-day oversight and support of Commercial Operations Safety matters. The incumbent shall be responsible for managing Commercial Operations Safety assessments and investigations and will liaise with other departments on Commercial Operations Safety matters as required.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent related work experience;
- Two (2) years of previous experience;
- Previous airline operational experience is required;
- Experience in Safety Management Systems;
- Experience in investigation techniques, root cause analysis and Corrective Action Plan Development;
- Knowledge of AQD Database an asset;
- Knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations, Canada Labour Code, OHS and AOHS regulations and company documents;
- Familiarity with Canadian North’s corporate structure and policies;
- Must possess superior interpersonal , organizational, and communication skills;
- Must demonstrate excellent research, investigation and problem-solving abilities;
- Must be adept in handling multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented; environment, while ensuring confidentiality;
- Must be able to document and write accurate unbiased reports;
- Accuracy and effective time management;
- Ability to work independently and also collaborate in a team environment;
- Proficient in standard office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Team, etc.);
- Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
- Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Pass in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated byTransport Canada.

Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:
- Ensuring that all personnel have safety as their primary objective by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilize the appropriate safety reporting processes in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the Director, Commercial Operations QC and Safety;
- Partnering with the Standards, Training, and Continuous Improvement teams to complete periodic review of documented processes;
- Consulting with technical resources and/or subject matter experts as needed for Commercial Operations investigative purposes;
- Providing follow up to any identified safety concerns reported to both the Safety Department and operational management as necessary;
- Analyzing and trending Commercial Operations safety data to ensure the effectiveness of the departmental Safety Program;
- Providing regular updates on significant investigations to the Director and VP;
- Developing, issuing, and tracking all corrective actions recommended to operational management related to Commercial Operations investigations in accordance with established corporate procedures;
- Establishing communication with employees and management as necessary to facilitate open collaboration and discussion related to Commercial Operations investigations and assessments;
- Participating in the safety awareness program, to include developing safety bulletins and briefings, etc.;
- Conducting base visits to review safety concerns/issues/feedback on all safety issues raised by the Commercial Operations group;
- Maintaining proactive communication with the employee group;
- Maintaining a close liaison with industry safety associations;
- Investigating and reporting on Commercial Operations hazards, incidents, and accidents and making recommendations to prevent re-occurrence;
- Identifying Commercial Operations Safety deficiencies and making recommendations for corrective action;
- Reinforcing the core functions and guiding principles of the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) to enhance operational safety and reliability;
- Participating in safety meetings;
- Participating in all risk assessments involving Commercial Operations; and
- Supporting the Company’s SMS by:
- Ensuring that accidents, incidents or hazards are reported appropriately and within a timely manner;
- Assisting with safety investigations;
- Conducting audits or assisting with audits;
- Conducting risk assessments and root cause investigation;
- Assisting with the development and monitoring of corrective action plans; and
- Conducting workplace inspection as required by the Safety Department.
