Job Description
Construction of the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will commence over the coming months and the project is expected to be completed in 2029. To help us construct the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant we will need some of Perth’s top professionals to join our team.
One of the key roles we are seeking to recruit is a Safety Lead - Tunnelling.
Reporting to the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and controlling safety management requirements, strategies and initiatives across the tunnelling and offshore scope of works.

Key accountabilities for the position

  • Monitor compliance with the safety systems and procedures within the workplace and provide operational support to the project management team.
  • Lead the Health and Safety a team to support the Alliance in achieving safe outcomes in its works on site.
  • Support the Alliance Health & Safety Lead so the Principle Contractor meets its legislative requirements through the proactive implementation of its systems and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all relevant legal and regulatory H&S requirements, as well as Company policies and guidelines, to ensure proposed H&S plans and safe work procedures are in line with industry Best Practice and comply with all legal regulations
  • Demonstrate leadership in all matters relating to health, safety, industrial relations and industry capability and inclusion
  • Engage, provide advice, support and guidance to Alliance Management and staff to assist in the facilitation provision of relevant information and expertise, to facilitate health and safety targets and improve safety awareness
  • Promote examples of safety excellence across both project and program and to key stakeholders and alliance partners

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Lead Auditor qualifications in WH&S management systems
  • Diploma of Work Health and Safety or equivalent advantageous
  • ICAM Lead Investigator
  • Training and Assessor Certificate 4
  • Strong understanding and a working knowledge of H&S practices (including occupational Health and Hygiene and HVNL COR), Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Strong stakeholder management experience and well-developed communication to build collaborative and effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experienced leading several safety advisors/coordinators/trainees and providing mentoring guidance
  • An ability to take the lead on complex reporting and safety audits in line with Acciona standards
