Description:

Sharp Trucking Services is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to join our Edmonton team. The Safety Manager will report to the Director of Safety. Primary functions of the Safety Manager is to work with Management to assist with monitoring compliance to legislation and safety programs, policies, and procedures. Must be aware of Federal, Provincial and local safety laws to ensure the company complies with all current safety regulations. Coordinates safety programs & policies and instructs truck and trailer drivers in matters pertaining to traffic and safety regulations and care of equipment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to health and safety by leading by example and positively reinforcing good behavior.
  • Contribute to Driver on boarding by conducting driving assessments and implementing training in Trip Inspection, Federal Hours of Service, Weights and Dimensions and Cargo
  • Coaching and mentoring Drivers to provide understanding of their compliance obligations as well as health and safety responsibilities and assistance in fulfilling those
  • Mentor and monitor drivers regarding log reports to ensure proper completion to minimize errors as required. Follow up and take necessary actions for various compliance infractions (Hours of Service, Speed, CVSA inspections, fatigue management, )
  • Monitoring reports (Carrier Profile, GPS reports, Log Audits) to ensure Driver compliance with legislation and continuous
  • If required, may periodically need to represent Carrier in Alberta Court of Law
  • Providing consultation, conducting and/or assisting in work observations, workplace inspections, trip inspection, risk assessments and hazard
  • Contribute to and attend safety
  • Contributes to incident, accident and violation investigation and implements initiatives to reduce reoccurrences. Periodically attends accident/incident scene to support associates and gather and maintains information, ensuring the root cause is identified and that corrective actions are taken
  • Collaborate with management to establish compliance goals, including the target dates and plans to ensure the goals are met.
  • Participate in Certificate of Recognition audit and contribute to the completion of action plans based on the audit findings.

    Job Tasks

  • Chair safety meetings, compile agendas, post minutes and ensure action plans are Administrative duties of the safety program.

  • Attend safety training and off-site
  • Interact with workers, government regulatory agencies, the public and conduct supervisory
  • Conduct Random Vehicle/DriverConduct site

Qualifications

  • 5 years+ of related experience within a Health & Safety
  • MUST have a valid Class 1 License
  • Advanced knowledge of National Safety Code & Standards, Health and Safety including Provincial and Federal Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Hazard Recognition, Assessment and Control; Health and Safety techniques; including in-depth understanding of the Company’s policies and
  • Considerable experience in safe equipment operating procedures within the trucking & transportation
  • Time management skills including an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi- task, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under
  • Willingness to travel to a variety of locations across Canada
  • Highly motivated, team player with the ability to work independently with a demonstrated passion for safety excellence and taking initiative.
  • Acceptable office skills in the operation and use of electronic data collection and computer equipment related to occupational health and safety and environmental monitoring and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English suitable for conveying positive messages and directing conversations to win – win
  • Customer Service Skills include effectively and efficiently responding to client and employee inquiries; resolving any conflicts or problems that might arise.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

  • Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of the performance management/ monitoring systems
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OH&S

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for
