Position Information
As a Transportation Leader, TxDOT’s #1 mission is to create a safe work zone and workplace resulting in zero incidents, zero injuries, zero lost time and zero fatalities. It’s critical to have a safe working environment to help our team on safety protocols.
The Safety Officer II, III or IV position would assist the Lufkin District’s various departments in morning safety meetings, end of the day huddles, and work to ensure compliance of policies, guidelines, and procedures. This position will play a very crucial role by working closely with crews and managers in both the offices and out on the Texas Roadways to build a strong safety culture as we move forward.

This position is for one Safety Officer II, III or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right in determining the level of position based on the applicant’s work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.
Minimum Salary: 45,244.00 Maximum Salary: 94,913.00

Position Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Technology, Business Admin or related discipline. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Safety Officer II: 1 year occupational safety, Industrial hygiene or related work areas.
Safety Officer III: 2 years occupational safety, Industrial hygiene or related work areas.
Safety Officer IV: 3 years occupational safety, Industrial hygiene or related work areas.
- Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
