EDUCATION
- Works with team members of the Employee Health Safety & Wellness program to develop education strategies, implement plans and supporting materials to educate or provide innovative methods to provide the required education to staff, such as Emergency Codes, Safe work practices, Hazard Identification and assessment, respiratory protection etc.
- Works with Department Managers/supervisors to track staff compliance in completing required education in order to meet the minimum expectations for safety education and training as required by the OH&S Act
- Administers and reviews the WHMIS program annually and provides education and support to departments in the creation of their WHMIS programs
- Participate in planning and administering of Emergency Codes education to all new employees and the annual safety education program.
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Responsible for ensuring the organization is aware of their responsibility to be in compliance with all aspects of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations, MOL requirements, Employment Standards, WSIB Act, Public Hospitals Act and all other relevant legislation pertinent to Health Care Facilities. This role acts as an advisor to ensure the organization through the Internal Responsibility System focuses on hazard identification and corrective action implementation in order to prevent harm to workers and others. The role is a key support in providing guidance to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee members and ensuring the organization understands the committee’s role and obligation to ensure legislative compliance in creating a safe workplace.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary contact for the Ministry of Labour Inspectors on all spot inspections, work refusals and review of the organizations compliance with all applicable legislation.
- Works with the Kinesiologist, Occupational Health Nurses, Claims Management Consultant and Manager of Employee Health Safety and Wellness on injury prevention program implementation, training and evaluation processes.
- Reviews all Employee Incident reports and investigations submitted
- Actively participates with the development and growth of the Joint Occupational health and Safety Committee. Collaborates with the Manager of Employee Health Safety and Wellness on Safety Committee meeting content and education needs for committee members. Responsible for ensuring Occupational Health and Safety Manual is reviewed annually with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and changes implemented and updated.
- Shares with Risk Management, Occupational Health, Infection Control and Certified Joint Health & Safety committee, managers and employees the results of all employee incident reports and investigation processes, and any other reports or alerts pertaining to safety issues.
- Helps maintain an information collection database and supports the organization in producing trend analysis on identified hazard and risk issues.
- Conducts random and planned safety audits throughout the facilities
- Involved in the resolution of employee, manager or union concerns in relation to identified hazards, near miss reports and all investigation correspondence or process requirements in order to resolve the issue and reduce risks for harm.
- Completes executive inspections senior team delegate.
- Working with key stakeholders in the organization, the community and province on formulating and evaluating our internal and external disaster planning strategies and compliance

- Maintains skills/knowledge by attending educational sessions and keeping informed of Health Centre policies and procedures.
