The Safety & Risk Manager - Supply Chain plays a pivotal role in aligning transport safety and compliance initiatives with the overall Supply Chain and Safety, Health & Wellbeing Strategy. Working closely with our partners, including Primary Connect, they lead efforts to champion safety and compliance programs while fostering a culture of responsibility and adherence.
The focus of this role includes driving the implementation of robust transport procedures within the wider Endeavour Group Safety Management System to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, particularly the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations.
As the Safety & Risk Manager - Supply Chain, you will provide leadership in developing and implementing solutions to mitigate and improve transport safety and compliance risks associated with freight movements in both our last mile (B2C) and to-store delivery networks.

Here is a taste of what you can expect in this role:

  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update comprehensive CoR policies, procedures, and documentation to govern all transport activities, ensuring alignment with relevant legislation such as the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
  • Implement a CoR Management Plan that encompasses legislative overviews, obligations, responsibilities, and duties of all relevant parties involved in the transport chain, ensuring clear communication and understanding throughout the organisation.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of CoR policies, procedures, and frameworks to incorporate updates, changes in requirements, and industry best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and compliance excellence.
  • Develop, review, and implement comprehensive CoR training programs tailored to legislative requirements and team members’ specific needs, covering areas such as fatigue management, loading/unloading procedures, drug/alcohol policies, vehicle standards, and contract driver management.
  • Collaborate with the Endeavour Group System Manager to maintain the Endeavour Group training needs analysis, identifying skill gaps, and developing a comprehensive CoR training schedule to address training requirements effectively.
  • Monitor training effectiveness through ongoing assessments and reviews, ensuring that all staff and officers possess the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil CoR obligations and responsibilities effectively.
  • Monitor sites and oversee due diligence checks to ensure that all drivers, whether directly employed or contracted, possess valid licences and meet CoR obligations, upholding compliance standards.
  • Support sites in maintaining compliance with accreditation modules related to mass management, maintenance management, and fatigue management, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Review and implement adequate monitoring mechanisms, including in-vehicle monitoring systems, to track driver activities, identify compliance issues, and facilitate incident reporting and investigation, promoting a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Monitor carriers’ vehicle maintenance activities, including scheduled preventative maintenance, record-keeping, and engagement of approved service providers, ensuring the ongoing roadworthiness of all vehicles in the fleet.
  • Manage contracts with third-party drivers and logistics companies, conducting regular audits and monitoring to ensure compliance with safety and CoR requirements, mitigating risks, and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Report CoR incidents promptly in the Endeavour Group Safety Management System and to relevant authorities if required, maintaining accurate incident registers and conducting periodic reviews to identify trends and areas for improvement, fostering a proactive approach to incident management.
  • Monitor and manage fatigue-related risks by ensuring adherence to fatigue management procedures, conducting regular inspections, and providing ongoing training and support to mitigate risks effectively and ensure a safe working environment for all staff members.
  • Collaborate with Distribution Centres (DCs) outside the Partnership Agreement to align compliance standards and ensure consistency in CoR obligations and responsibilities across all distribution channels.
  • Engage with Pinnacle for linehaul tasks and bulk transportation of grapes and merchandise at Paragon sites, ensuring adherence to CoR regulations and safety standards throughout the transportation process.
  • Provide support for compliance within the Endeavour Delivery network and Fulfilled by Endeavour (FbE) deliveries, addressing any non-compliance issues promptly and effectively.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in a senior transport leadership role.
  • Demonstrated track record in establishing a strategic transport safety and compliance culture.
  • Comprehensive understanding of logistics business operations, with significant experience in transport management
  • Qualifications in Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation management, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
  • Knowledge of Retail Distribution Centre operating practices, policies, and procedures would be beneficial.
