Description:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide safety training, auditing, plant safety inspections, and safety support to the Production, Maintenance, Projects and Turnaround organizations as key customers
- You will assist as a resource for safety related issues and concerns when required
- Attendance at department team meetings, as well as other department safety meetings as requested
- Development of procedures for the safety department, as well as review the safety portion of other department procedures
- Sound working knowledge of the Alberta Workplace Health and Safety Act, Code and Regulations to provide interpretation to employees and contractors
- Interpretation of Scotford Complex Safe Work Practices to employees and contractors
- Will play a key role in the development of critical task analysis and job safety analysis. You may be required to do shift work during turnarounds, major maintenance outages or emergencies (potential for evenings and weekends as required). Participate/verify all initial confined space entries
- Lead incident investigations, as well as provide coaching to the organization for incident investigations as required
- Interface/assist the cross-business Safety Specialists, as requested
- You will participate in HSSE projects as assigned
- Provide safety support to the Incident Command Team, as required during emergencies as a Safety Officer
- Reserve worker duties may also be assigned in the case of Strike/lockout to allow business continuity
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer
- You must have minimum of 3 years in HSSE experience from Oil and Gas or Industrial setting
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) with relevant experience may be considered), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or equivalent certification considered, asset and desirable
- Trade or process operations background considered an asset
- Knowledgeable of computer systems and programs
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment as well as alone
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- First-Aid/CPR trained, H2S Awareness
- TDG trained
- OSSA Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry and Monitor, Fire Watch
- Credited in Auditing
- LEAN, 4DX or agile methodology awareness and mentality, preferred

Responsibilities:
As a Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for providing interpretation of, and support to, the business in implementing the operational safety standards. Coach and mentor front line leaders and the frontline on owning/delivering HSE performance.
