About the Role:
The Safety Technician position is an entry level position designed to introduce the employee to the safety field. The Safety Technician will work under the direct supervision of safety leadership. This position will complete a six-month field trial where they will gain valuable hands-on project safety experience. After the successful completion of the field rotation, the Safety Technician will be introduced to additional safety techniques vital to our operations and project success.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in construction or electrical construction is preferred
- Minimum 1 year construction safety experience in Canada
- Must have a current National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification, British Columbia certification is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to travel into the field, job site visits and available for extended travel periods
- Ability to tolerate inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, snow etc.)
- Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Suite software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Excellent communication both orally and written

Responsibilities:
- Complete pre and post shift safety check on a daily basis
- Complete and store site safety forms in appropriate software
- Assist in creating a system for communicating safety and health issues to include: General employee/department safety meetings; Formal safety training for safe work practices; Posting of various safety communications; Development of a safety suggestion system
- Assist in the coordination, monitoring, and providing technical support for district safety committees
- Learn to conduct periodic job site visits of all crews to identify unsafe work conditions and practices. Perform daily review of Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA) and make safety related work recommendations.
- Document and communicate site visit information
- Coordinate other supplemental inspections whenever new processes, equipment, substances, or previously unrecognized hazards are found to be present
- Verify that corrective measures are completed, including recommendations of the safety committee, insurance carrier, and/or other safety consultant
- Assist in the review and completion of corrective actions for all injury and illness investigation reports
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company designated office or field location
- Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.
