Sturgeon Valley Athletic Club (SVAC) is a private fitness facility offering a full range of fitness solutions to our members. Our vision is to be the number one private platinum fitness solution by providing second to none options to our members and those looking for a better fit for their training options. We have grown our business over the last 28 years with a strong commitment to health and wellness serving our clients in St. Albert and the greater Edmonton area.
We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Sales Associate. The ideal candidate is passionate about building relationships and providing exceptional customer service. We enjoy working smarter not harder, developing better life balance and a healthy team environment.
This position offers 30-40 hours per week (5 days per week). It will require a minimum of 2-3 opening shifts (4:45 am to 11:00 am) per week, as well as availability for other weekday, evening, and weekend shifts.
Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to the 2-3 opening shifts per week. While availability for other weekday, evening, and weekend shifts is also needed, some scheduling flexibility will be provided for these additional shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Sales Lead and the Club Manager, the Sales Associate will model and uphold the high standards of Club Etiquette while presenting professional and friendly service to all Club Members and fellow staff. They will be responsible for Front Desk Operations and Membership Administration in accordance with Club Policies and Procedures.
The Sales Associate role is responsible for providing excellent customer service and member retention, with a larger focus on sales.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior work experience in a sales position is preferred
- CPR, Emergency & Standard First Aid, and AED certification is required
- Proficiency with booking software is an asset
- Strong communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Sales Associate is to sell SVAC memberships & services to existing and prospective clients as per Sales Processes. This includes Club tours, making and receiving phone calls, membership sign-ups, and follow-up.
- Learn and become proficient with using gym management software by utilizing tools such as making sales calls from prospective member lists, accurately gathering and collecting member information, assisting with booking appointments for members as requested, completing follow-up tasks, and managing POS interactions.
- Understand and proactively promote SVAC services, programs, and classes to our Club Members.
- Support Club Management on sales initiatives and promotional opportunities.
- Understand Club Policies and Procedures and ensure that these are always adhered to. Monitor entrance and immediately attempt to resolve any system-generated issues at the point of entry (i.e. Failure codes, FOB issues, payment lapses, etc.). Entrance to the Club cannot be permitted until these items are resolved or approved by management.
- Become knowledgeable and familiar with the pricing models and be able to speak to them and answer any questions.
- Keep informed and up to date with all SVAC events and communication to better assist Club Members and prospects.
- Assist with any “special events” that may be scheduled during your shift (e.g. Sweat Crawl, Members Night, etc.).
- Develop positive and professional relationships with Members in support of personalized customer service and retention.
- Represent and advocate for SVAC in the community and at external events (e.g. Trade Show) as planned and scheduled.
Secondly, the Sales Associate will also work in cooperation with the entire SVAC Team to provide and ensure exceptional customer service levels. This is to be done in an enthusiastic, professional, and friendly manner extended to all Club Members.
- You are responsible for all aspects of your scheduled shift.
- In the absence of an SVAC Leader, resolve all Club Member concerns to the best of your ability and within Club Policy parameters. Report ALL major incidents to the Club Manager even if resolved.
- Use due diligence when informing and making recommendations to Club Members. Refer specific questions to the SVAC specialist responsible for that area. If in doubt, get back to the Member in a timely manner only after researching and discovering the correct answer.
- Maintain a general working knowledge of the operation of all fitness equipment in the Club. Participation in an Equipment Orientation is required, and it is also recommended to take part in as many of SVAC’s services and classes as possible to enhance your overall ability to assist and sell.
- Maintain coffee and tea service in the Lounge as per SVAC policy and work with Housekeeping Associates to keep the area immaculate and inviting.
- Participate in cleaning protocols, tasks and schedules alongside Housekeeping Associates to ensure the Club is kept impressively clean, orderly, safe and secure.
- Undertake projects as assigned by the SVAC Leaders.
Other responsibilities include:
- Refer to posted schedules and be aware of all staff members onsite during your shift. Assume leadership responsibility whenever SVAC Leaders are not present in the facility. While on Shift, in the absence of an SVAC Leader, it is the Sales Associate’s responsibility for the safety and security of the building (inside and out) and to take appropriate action in the event of an emergency (e.g. medical incident, fire alarm etc.) as per the Emergency Policy and Procedures outlined in the employee handbook.
- As an SVAC Team Member, you are always responsible for contributing to the cleanliness of the facility. Look and watch for opportunities to enhance the overall appearance of the Club and address it to the best of your ability. Also remember to always remain friendly, enthusiastic and professional in both demeanor and appearance as you are the first and last person that our Members often see as they visit the Club.
- Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety practices as outlined during your training, and by industry standards. This includes but is not limited to the safe handling and usage of all cleaning chemicals, as well as any other items or tools that you may encounter.
- Follow specific directions from the General Manager or other SVAC Managers to complete any special projects or other duties as assigned.
- Stay aware of all operations within the Club and keep yourself informed of services and upcoming events via in-house and emailed communications.
