Description:
Sanctions Manager - EMEA
Mercury is building a complete finance stack for startups. We work hard to create the easiest and safest banking* experience possible to simplify entrepreneurs’ and business owners’ financial lives. The challenge is to do so while ensuring we protect Mercury, customers and the broader financial ecosystem from bad actors and harmful, illegal or unauthorized activities.
At Mercury, we’re taking Financial Crimes extremely seriously. The Sanctions team conducts investigations, develops procedures and builds controls with cross-functional partners to prevent, detect and report sanctioned and out of policy activities. As the Sanctions Manager - EMEA, you will drive and own the domain at Mercury. You will work closely with Compliance, Legal, Risk Strategy and Risk Product to ensure that the team has the tools, support, clarity and resources to do an excellent job.
- Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.
Responsibilities:
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Lead a team of sanctions investigators, overseeing operational procedures, refining alerts, conducting investigations for sanctions, PEP, and adverse media, and managing day-to-day workflows and staff performance
- Mentor and coach team members, including senior and junior individual contributors, to support development, performance, and career growth
- Enhance sanctions operations by implementing process automation, outsourcing when appropriate, and collaborating with Product teams to build tools and capabilities
- Identify training needs, performance gaps, and process improvements while providing actionable recommendations to management
- Perform due diligence as a checker or second reviewer, recording decisions on alerted transactions, SWIFT messages, and affiliated parties flagged by compliance filters
- Ensure business continuity under all conditions with strict adherence to guidelines and deadlines
- Maintain communication with branches and frontline teams, such as Customer Service and Ongoing Due Diligence teams, to ensure alignment on sanctions-related issues
- Oversee and maintain all data, guidelines, and procedures related to sanctions, PEP, and NNS screening
- Support the Senior Sanctions Investigations Manager on strategic initiatives, including addressing requests related to conditional approvals and process enhancements
