This position is responsible for maintenance and configuration of applications used within the Energy Management System (EMS), Operator Training Simulator (OTS) and Automatic Generation Control (AGC). Duties may include general EMS support duties

Key elements of this role include::

  • Provide appropriate and timely technical advice and direction on changes required to these systems and processes to adapt to new or emerging technologies or changing regulatory requirements (NPCC, NERC).
  • Maintain and support OSII Monarch EMS system application functionality and availability by carrying out proper power application procedures and troubleshooting guides.
  • Participate in EMS related projects and upgrades, conduct FAT/SAT testing and work closely with vendors to address all EMS Network Modeling, OTS,AGC requirements.
  • Maintain the day to day Operational changes in the EMS system such as power system modeling changes.
  • Support, maintain and troubleshoot OSI monarch power system applications such as Power Flow (PF), State Estimator (SE) and Contingency Analyzer (CA).
  • Work closely with other parties/departments to maintain NERC (O&P) related compliance activities and participate in NPCC Audits when required.
  • Maintain the day-to-day modeling changes for the Operator training simulator (OTS) and carry out any required troubleshooting when needed.
  • Available to support EMS when needed “after hours support”.
  • Maintain the AGC and do proper troubleshooting when needed.

These skills will make you successful::

  • You are a graduate with a Bachelor´s degree in Electrical Engineering and with related working experience of T&D Power Systems and a full member (or eligible for membership) in Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • At least 2 – 5 years of experience in Power Utility EMS ,OTS and AGC applications.
  • Linux/Red Hat experience would be considered a valuable asset.
  • Experience with OSI Monarch SCADA systems.
  • You possess fully developed technical knowledge in electric utility engineering disciplines. You have a detailed understanding of all components and interactions of SCADA and EMS .
  • You work in an operating environment. You possess strong oral and written communication skills, a strong customer service ethic, good interpersonal skills and are able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • You have the ability to provide work leadership and technical direction to fellow engineers and technical support staff.
  • You are a self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills. You possess strong computer skills. You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development.
  • You must be available for after hour consultation and emergency power restoration work.

You must possess a valid driver´s license.
