We are now seeking a motivated and results driven talent to join our Scent division in Scent Design for the fabric care category. This position is one that offers a collaborative work environment, with a chance to create work for both new and established consumer brands. The position will be located in our Fabric & Home Care Innovation Center in Hilversum, the Netherlands

Your focus
In the Scent Design Associate position in innovation you will be responsible for defining and executing product development strategies that lead to differentiating consumer relevant fragrance solutions for the global fabric care market.
Consumer intelligence is the key source used to respond to external and internal product and process development opportunities. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, to build and further strengthening existing and new IFF capabilities. You will explore and identify consumer and customer solutions and develop new fragrance themes, fragrance technologies and development processes. You will be managing project resources to meet deadlines and investment parameters.
Key responsibilities
Innovation & Leadership

Creative lead on global innovation projects to develop and implement innovative fragrance development strategies:

  • Connect market, customer and consumer needs to identify, develop and/or recommend competitive product solutions to drive business results.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (perfumers, technical/R&D, CI/marketing) to uncover challenges and opportunities and develop new fragrance solutions and capabilities.
  • Manage programs with high technical content linked to fragrance technologies and ingredients and/or product base formulations.
  • Ideation: stimulate teams in finding new consumer solutions and development processes
  • Consumer Insights strategy: define what to learn from consumers to gain competitive advantage and build consumer relevant solutions and value propositions.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities to feed into technical/R&D briefings.

Project management

  • Partner with internal customers / stakeholders to ensure fragrance strategies align to overall business objectives
  • Consistently drive process, discipline and effective execution to bring the desired speed to market
  • Monitor results and have the agility to change the course of a project when needed
  • Good understanding of the big picture and use this knowledge to define and establish competitive solutions / strategies
  • Maintain global visibility, internally and externally

Knowledge Management

  • Actively share information and knowledge with a mind-set to put teams in a position to make the difference
  • Document learning and insights generation. Present and share market/consumer/olfactive trends, fragrance solutions and creative guidelines with internal and external customers, in partnership with relevant disciplines

People Management

  • Support the principles of a learning organization
  • Establish strong working relationships with global teams and internal & external customers.
  • Drive your own development; partner with your manager to ensure SMART objectives and a personal development plan

Required Skills:

  • Excellent olfactive communication skills which support the overall creative process – discriminate, describe (association) and odor memory
  • Manage the execution of the olfactive strategy by providing creative direction and olfactive guidance to perfumers in order to stimulate creative exploration and differentiation.
  • Ability to effectively identify potential fragrance or technology solutions based on market relevance.
  • Creates compelling communication to teams or stakeholders to drive strategy and share knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of market/consumer trends and consumer behaviors/ preferences globally.
  • Fragrance ingredient and technology understanding to facilitate communication with technical teams and perfumers
  • Basic technical understanding of fabric care formulations to apply to fragrance challenges and create solutions
  • Proficiency of data mining, analysis, insight generation and drawing conclusions. Independently write reports summarizing work done and recommendations on opportunities and potential next steps.
  • Actively shares knowledge and actionable insights with other parts of the organization
  • Communicate and maintain awareness on market developments and competitive insights.
  • Strong project management skills, disciplined and process oriented.
  • Open minded, strong agility and shows courage.
  • Ability to deliver in a fast pace environment and deliver under pressure.

  • Fluent in English, other language proficiency (e.g. Dutch) is a plus

Required Experience:

  • Master’s or Bachelor degree, preferably in Perfumery, Science, Chemistry or business
  • Minimum 2-3 years working experience (fragrance house or consumer goods company), in an international environment
  • Fabric Care category experience is a pre
  • Excellent olfactive capabilities; Olfactive assessment is part of the selection process
