About the Team The Faculty of Science’s organisational structure consists of two schools, two research institutes, administrative services, and technical services. The Faculty is the fifth largest in terms of student enrolments and second largest in terms of research revenue of the seven faculties at UTS. It is also the second largest in terms of total academic and support staff. The School of Life Sciences is devoted to the study of life across a broad range of biological disciplines, from molecules and cells to species and ecosystems. Through innovative scientific research and transformative education, it is helping to build a healthier and more sustainable world. About the Role The School Academic Officer, Teaching & Learning is responsible for providing high-level administrative support for the teaching and learning activities that contribute to the efficient operation of the School. The School Academic Officer, Teaching & Learning is accountable to the School Manager, however works closely with the Associate Head (Teaching & Learning) and Associate Head (Education & Students) along with academics within the School with timely and professional teaching and learning administrative support to enable academic outcomes. If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for: • Acting as the primary contact for student administration and academic program inquiries, ensuring effective decision-making frameworks.• Assisting in managing academic workloads and coordinate with Exams and Admissions teams on exam-related tasks and admissions.• Supporting curriculum changes through reports and manage coursework progression issues, including appeals and special considerations.• Onboarding new casual academics and reactivate those returning after a long absence.• Managing student administration appeals, facilitate communication between Faculty Administration and academic staff, and coordinate student feedback surveys.• Overseeing casual academic employment processes, ensuring contract compliance and reviewing teaching activities in the Casual Academic Database.• Providing high-level advice and support to school leadership on policy, process, and project matters; support and provide analysis for committees.• Representing the School at university forums, coordinate strategic projects, and support various school activities and committees.• Performing additional ad hoc duties as directed by the School Manager or Associate Head of School. Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal guidance, as well as part of a team2. Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, to meet and manage competing deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy within a high-pressure work environment3. Substantial relevant administrative experience4. Excellent written and oral communications skills5. Experience using large scale enterprise systems or the ability to gain competency within a reasonable timeframe Remuneration & Benefits Base Salary Range: $92,851 to $100,534 pa (HEW 6) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months. A secondment opportunity will be considered for eligible internal applicants.
