Overview:
London Borough of Harrow’s Education Service is looking for a School Attendance Liaison and Elective Home Education Officer to communicate and engage with children and young people who have been referred by schools, their families, educational services and establishments, Early Support, and other statutory and voluntary agencies, to promote inclusion in education by regular beneficial attendance and punctuality at school or at registered alternative provision.
In addition, you will be the lead contact for parents who have elected to provide home education for their child(ren) and maintain a list of home educated children. The post holder will offer advice and guidance to schools on poor attendance and punctuality as well as undertaking some short-term casework interventions.
The School Attendance Liaison and Elective Home Education Officer will offer advice and support to parents who undertake Elective Home Education. You will work as a member of the team but will also undertake lone working with visits to schools and homes.
This position is term time only.
About you:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, including the use of a telephone; and in writing with other professionals, parents and children.
  • Ability to carry out duties in relation to the legal aspects of the post.
  • Two years’ experience of work with children and families within this or a related field which includes visiting children and parents in their own homes.
  • Experience of liaison at a senior level with head teachers, governors and officers, and officers of other agencies.
  • Experience of home education.
  • Good computer/word processing skills.
  • Ability to work without constant supervision, to work alone, to work as part of a team and to work under pressure.
  • GCSE English and Math or equivalent at Grade C or above.
  • Access to use of personal transport and possession of a valid driving licence.
