School Based Youth and Family Worker

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Awareness of the principals of trauma informed practice
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of participants’ socio-cultural characteristics
• Well- developed communication skills
• Knowledge of behavior management strategies and ability to employ preventative or interventive behavior support
• Physically fit with experience in a range of outdoor activities
• Collaborative team player, able to establish and maintain positive working relationships
• A passion for supporting vulnerable youth

QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred Degree in Social Services field and 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable youth or a combination of related education and experience

REQUIREMENTS

• Successful completion of a criminal record check
• Valid driver’s License
• First Aid Certification

• Establishes and maintains trusting and purposeful relationships with youth
• Work collaboratively with educational teams and community partners by assisting in the design, implementation and monitoring of developmentally appropriate programs and supports
• Assists the teacher in the development and implementation of the student’s IEP Goals particularly around the student’s social, emotional, behavioral and mental health needs
• Facilitates positive collaborative partnerships with community agencies that work to address the needs of at-risk and vulnerable youth
• Supports in planning and implementation of land-based learning component of the program, including gear management
• Performs other related duties as required
