Description:

The Lax Kw’alaams Band is seeking a full-time experienced School Counsellor who will be an integral part of our school-based team. This position will provide direct social-emotional, academic and career-vocational counselling and consultation to students (elementary, secondary and adult), their families and supporting staff.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Education Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
  • BC Teacher Certification and member of the Teacher Regulation Branch preferred
  • Teaching experience at the elementary or high school level is an asset.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in counselling children and part of the School Based Team.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge and Experience in Trauma Informed Practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability. Strong communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently; must be able to schedule and prioritize work.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Able to deal with people sensitivity, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Proven ability to establish open, trusting and respectful relationships with youth.
  • Personal attributes include caring, compassion, empathy and sensitivity.
  • Experience working with First Nation children, adults and families.
  • Innovative, creative, team player and resourceful.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.
