School Counsellor/Senior School Counsellor
The School Counsellor is responsible for the counselling and guidance programme at Hwa Chong Institution. The School Counsellors duties include but are not limited to the following:
Job Description:
1. Counselling Students
a. provide direct counselling intervention for students in the College Section, and,
where needed, in the High School Section
b. lead the Case Management Team to provide timely support and intervention for
students who need counselling
c. conference with staff, parents and external professionals / agencies on students
being counselled, and conduct home visits where necessary
2. Working with Staff
a. collaborate and advise school counsellors to formulate suitable counselling and well-being approaches for the students under the care of the unit
b. engage teachers in managing students with academic, behavioural, and emotional
issues
c. provide and source for counselling training & other workshops for staff to strengthen their affective skills
d. collaborate with relevant staff teams to set up upstream prevention strategies e.g. in areas of CCE
3. Working with Parents
a. engage parents in managing students with academic, behavioural, and emotional
issues
b. conduct and/or coordinate workshops for parents to align their expectations with the schools and to strengthen their parenting skills
4. School Duties
a. provide counselling support in the event of school emergencies as a member of the
Caring Action in Response to Emergencies (CARE) team
b. monitor the counselling data in college section and provide school leaders with timely information
5. Any other duty as assigned by the Reporting Officer, Deputy Principal or
Principal
The School Counsellors expertise and primary duties are to provide counselling services to the school. However, the School Counsellor is also an integral member of the Student Development Team, and would be actively involved in the programmes pertaining to students affective development.

REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate qualification in counselling, counselling psychology or clinical psychology
Preferably a registered counsellor and/or clinical supervisor with the Singapore
Association for Counselling (SAC) or a registered psychologist with the Singapore
Psychological Society (SPS)
A minimum of FIVE years of professional counselling experience and competent in case
management, and critical incident management
Proficient in professional counselling approaches and tools to help clients with diverse issues and conditions
Experience in working with young adults, preferably in a school setting
Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team and conducting or facilitating continual Professional Development training for staff is advantageous
Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
