SUMMARY:
In support of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), Science Officers (SOs) will support the administration of Congressional appropriation grants which foster novel approaches to biomedical research in response to the expressed needs of its stakeholders; the American public, the Department of Defense, and Congress. Science Officers will support grant negotiations, milestone tracking, contract modifications, publication reviews and patents. They serve as the primary point of contact for the funded investigator, acting as a liaison between the investigator and the contracting, regulatory, and other military sponsors. Science Officers function as a liaison between funded investigator and military sponsoring agency. The Science Officer will apply their scientific knowledge and general understanding of grant funding to provide technical review and oversight to support the CDMRP mission.
Specific Program Support: The Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) has supported research across the full range of science and medicine, with an underlying goal of enhancing the health, care, and well-being of military Service members, Veterans, retirees, and their family members. The PRMRP is committed to supporting research that has the potential to profoundly impact the development and implementation of medical devices, drugs, and clinical guidance that will enhance the precision and efficacy of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment across a wide range of disciplines including autoimmune diseases and immunology, cardiovascular health, endocrine health and metabolism, environmental health, infectious diseases, internal medicine, neurological and psychological health, orthopedic and regenerative medicine, and respiratory health and injury.
Responsibilities:
NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to speak to scientific and non-scientific audiences in a clear, concise manner
- Demonstrated knowledge of general physiology with an emphasis on respiratory and cardiovascular physiology.
- Experienced in conducting/reviewing basic and translational research
- Ability to learn Electronic Grant Systems (EGS).
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
- Proficiency using Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters in scientific discipline
- Background in physiology
- Peer-reviewed publications in the field of cancer research
- US Citizenship
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in scientific discipline
- Research portfolio management experience
Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000 annual.
