Description:

Science Technician
Stockport
£425 - £450 per week via PAYE

New Directions Education are working with a Secondary School based in Stockport who are looking for a dedicated and proactive Science Technician. the successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support across all areas of science, ensuring that teaching staff have the necessary resources and equipment to deliver high-quality lessons.
You will be working in a dynamic school environment, helping to prepare materials for practical science lessons, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the safe use of laboratory facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about science and education, with a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A strong interest in science, with qualifications in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., GCSEs or A-levels in Science; a BTEC or equivalent qualification would be beneficial).
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or technical support role is preferred, but not essential.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of students and staff.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with both students and staff.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and set up practical experiments for science lessons across various disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics)
  • Maintain and organise science lab equipment and stock, including ordering and managing supplies.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and equipment, in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist science teaching staff in delivering practical lessons and demonstrations.
  • Provide technical support during lessons, including ensuring experiments run smoothly.
  • Help with the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory spaces and equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of health and safety standards in science teaching.
