About this opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity to join Scottish Widows’ Investment Operations Data Analytics team as a Scientific Advisor within our Chief Investments Office.
This is a varied role where you’ll be responsible for supporting the investment team with independent insight and advice on scientific issues, ensuring policy and decision-making is underpinned by science, rigorous evidence and sound analysis to help advise solutions supporting our customers.
You’ll work collaboratively with a wide group of colleagues across Scottish Widows bringing your passion for statistical analysis to support the data & analytics function in the design of analytical and predictive data modelling.
We’re looking for you to come from an academic or research-based background and have a passion and interest across multiple subject areas covering (amongst others) physics, chemistry, biology, electronics and behavioural statistics.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Consuming, analysing and summarising publicly available research and academic literature supporting the team with independent insight.
  • Providing advice, challenge and oversight to senior leaders on areas of scientific enquiry.
  • Contributing to debate on scientific subject matter with investment impact, including areas of environmental and social policy.
  • Working alongside our data function to test and measure consumer behaviour patterns and design future research pathways.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience of translating and synthesising research findings across a broad range of quantitative and qualitative disciplines.
  • Understanding of statistical techniques associated with hypothesis testing and predictive modelling.
  • Tight-knit collaboration and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and accurately.
  • Experience in building strong networks across organisations.
  • You’ll be familiar with the peer-review research processes and credible academic publications.

About working for us
Our focus is to ensure we’re inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture.
We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative. And it’s why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.
We’re disability confident. So, if you’d like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual performance-related bonus
  • Share schemes including free shares!
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping.
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies

If you’re excited by the thought of becoming part of our team, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!

We keep your data safe. So, we’ll only ever ask you to provide confidential or sensitive information once you have formally been invited along to an interview or accepted a verbal offer to join us which is when we run our background checks.
