Responsibilities:

In this position, you will support the operation of the anaesthesia and analgesia department of the Department of Small Pets, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine by working in the Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The main duties are:

  • Responsibility and coordination of the anaesthesia department
  • Supervising the daily activities
  • Ensuring proper organisation, execution and administrative follow-up of sedations and anaesthesias in function of clinic operations
  • Designing sedation, anaesthesia and analgesia protocols for dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures
  • Performing sedation and anaesthesia on dogs and cats undergoing diagnostic or surgical procedures
  • Supervise interns and students in performing sedations and anaesthetics in dogs and cats and in performing anaesthesia-related procedures (e.g. IV catheter placement, blood sampling, (non)-invasive blood pressure measurement, anaesthesia monitoring, loco-regional anaesthesia, TIVA, recovery monitoring,…)
  • Consult with veterinarians and specialists from other disciplines on post-operative analgesia and analgesia protocols for hospitalised dogs and cats
  • Participate in the small animal clinic’s anaesthesia on-call service
