Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING | NGĀ WHĀINGA MATUA

In this role, you will play a key role in advancing fish cell culture research, helping to develop innovative applications that enhance fish health and support sustainable aquaculture practices. You’ll work hands-on with fish cell lines, contribute to data analysis, and explore new possibilities in cellular agriculture and alternative proteins. Your work will directly contribute to pioneering advancements in the aquaculture industry.

  • Conduct research in fish cell biology, including cell isolation, culture, and characterization.
  • Develop and test new applications for fish cell lines to address aquaculture challenges.
  • Analyse experimental data, compile results, and independently evaluate findings.
  • Prepare peer-reviewed publications, funding proposals, and client reports.
  • Collaborate with team members to share knowledge and support R&D projects.

To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD in molecular or cell biology (or related field) and hands-on experience in cell culture and advanced molecular techniques, including expertise with fish or vertebrate cell models. With a collaborative spirit and a commitment to sustainable aquaculture, you’re ready to apply your analytical skills and problem-solving abilities to cutting-edge research. Additionally, you will:

  • Have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Be an effective written and verbal communicator, collaborative team player
  • Have a commitment to sustainability, animal ethics, and cultural sensitivity
  • Have at least 2 years relevant work experience preferred - ideally in an R&D environment, with a track record of publication in peer reviewed journals, presentations, and/or patent
