Description:

Argonne National Laboratory seeks a highly experienced and innovative scientist/engineer to carry out a world-class research program in carbon management, including carbon capture, storage, transport, and/or conversion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a world-class research program in carbon management, train postdoctoral researchers and students (as appropriate), publish research findings in high-impact journals, present at conferences, and participate in public outreach activities to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness about carbon management issues.
  • Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and researchers to execute research projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges in carbon management and propose innovative research directions to address them.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge exchange across different divisions within Argonne National Laboratory to leverage expertise and resources.
  • Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and academic institutions, to secure funding and establish collaborative research initiatives.
  • As needed, work with others at the laboratory to develop and implement a strategic research plan in carbon management aligned with the mission and strategy of Argonne National Laboratory.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field such as chemical engineering, environmental science, materials science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in leading or conducting scientific or engineering research in carbon management.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary research teams and delivering impactful research outcomes. Experience leading research projects or programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy is helpful.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience presenting research findings at conferences and public forums.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of carbon management technologies, including carbon capture, storage, transport, and conversion, as well as carbon emissions reduction strategies.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

The selected individual will be placed at the appropriate level (RD3 or RD4) depending on the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:

  • RD3: Bachelor’s and 8+ years, Master’s and 5+ years, or Doctorate and 4+ years.
  • RD4: Bachelor’s and 12+ years, Master’s and 7+ years, or Doctorate and 6+ years.
