Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic entry level Scientist to join the Molecular Department, who is passionate about genome-editing technologies and their real-world applications. As a Scientist within this team you will assist with all aspects of synthetic biology, construct development and gene editing design for experimental approaches and plant product development.
This role suits applicants looking to transition from PhD candidacy to their first role within an Agritech industry setting, as you will have the opportunity to be trained by leading scientists in a rapidly developing area of synthetic biology.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  • PhD or PhD candidate in a relevant field (Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry) with a specific focus on Gene Editing and Plants

DESIRABLE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

We are looking for expertise and transferable skills in a range of the following areas. You do not need to be an expert in all the below areas to apply:

  • Direct practical experience in general molecular biology techniques
  • Expertise with diverse cloning technologies and applications
  • Broad experience with genome editing (plants and microorganisms)
  • Experience with microbial engineering

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

The Molecular Biology team provides technical and scientific leadership to support gene expression, synthetic biology and molecular analysis efforts at Tropic, acting as a focal point between bioinformatics and plant biology. You will carry out the design and generation of complex gene editing vectors for our internal Crop Biotechnology clients, with the expert support of our SynBio Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will perform key cloning tasks such as gene editing strategy design, vector assembly and QC.
  • You will consult on experimental and project design for SynBio project work packages
  • You will communicate and manage requests to the SynBio team from internal stakeholders
  • You will support implementation of novel CRISPR-based technologies to facilitate improved genome editing approaches.
  • You will foster strong QC and assurance practices, including traceable laboratory records and databases.
