Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Genetics Research Division, is seeking a Scientist I. The candidate will work in the field of pancreatic beta cell biology, obesity and insulin resistance in diabetes research. The candidate will design and conduct experiments independently and together with co-workers, analyze and interpret the data, and present and publish the findings in journals and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR M.D. and Master’s degree.
  • OR Master’s degree and four (4) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of related experienc

Responsibilities:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, coordinates and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques.
  • Writes grant applications, carries projects to completion and supervises/trains employees and students.
  • Designs, performs and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control and protocol compliance.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data.
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
  • Supervises and/or performs equipment maintenance, operations and quality control procedures.
  • Performs and/or oversees new research procedures.
  • Serves as principal investigator on sub-projects of complexities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Annual Salary Range $63,125.00 - $103,700.00
